Hugh (Bud) Edward Heron Jr. was born January 28th, 1932, in Staten Island, New York to father, Hugh Heron (Sr) and mother, Anna Dorthea (Mauro) Heron. Hugh had two sisters, Dorothy Desmond and Jean Martin. From the age of 13 he worked to help support his mother and sisters and thoroughly enjoyed his summers working alongside his Papa Francesco Mauro.
Upon adulthood, Hugh served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. This is where his brilliant writing and editing came to use. He finished his military career as a Sergeant, receiving 3 medals. Exiting the military, Hugh joined his mother and sisters in California and has remained ever since.
He met Diana M Marlow in May 1957 and was married on October 26, 1957. Soon after, they started their family and welcomed each of their spouses with great love; Gina (Paul), Hugh (Jeanine), Cynthia (John), Aileen (Tom), Glen (Teri), Baby HF, Dawn (Ray) and was proud to be part of his 27 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren’s lives.
Hugh entered his aerospace career in the 1960’s with Litton Industries and Lockhead Martin, dabbled in entrepreneurship and was led back to Northrop Grumman in the 1970’s, where he worked on the FA-18 and in the B-2 division. By the grace of God, Hugh won his battle with colon cancer in the mid 80’s and finished his career, May 1990 as a Configuration Management Engineer Specialist. He committed 8 years to Miller Jones Mortuary in hopes of giving back and living his best Catholic Christian faith.
His home was filled with the beautiful sounds of his singing. Keeping God first was the most important part of his family’s daily lives. We watched his Christian works by his dedication and efforts for our Catholic church. Hugh joined the Knights of Columbus, sang in the church choir, was a eucharistic minister to the sick, served on the parish council and assisted the church daily. Teaching us that giving of oneself is most important.
Hugh’s greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life of 66 years, Diana, and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to take drives and travel, but his ultimate happiness was found in the time spent with family. His love, affection, spiritual devotion and charismatic ways will be greatly missed.
