Life Tribute

Sharon Wanda Kingsberry

Jan 13,1965 – November 14th, 2024

Sharon passed away at the age of 59 on the morning of November 14th, 2024, in the comfort and safety of her home as she was cared for by her loving husband Anthony Kingsberry. Sharon died after almost a three- year battle with bilateral Breast cancer that eventually spread to her brain and lower spine. She fought faithfully and courageously in a way that served as a great spiritual inspiration (for one who rededicated herself to the Lord) for both family and friends.

Sharon was born in Jan 1965 in British Guyana to Edmond Hyman and Berle I. Hyman. Her family was fortunate to be sponsored by missionaries to move to the Bronx in New York City when she was seven years old. Sharon graduated from Clara Barton High School in 1983. She then attended nursing school at City College of The City University of New York, graduating with her BSN in December 1990. It was in her nursing program where she met her husband Anthony who was in the same graduating class as Sharon. Anthony and Sharon married on February 9th, 1991. Anthony already had plans to serve as a nurse in the Navy and Sharon was up for the challenge. One week after marrying they both went to Officer Indoctrination school together in Rhode Island followed by their first duty station at Naval Hospital Long Beach, California. Sharon’s strong work ethic and sense of duty contributed greatly to her reaching the high rank of Naval Captain. Sharon entered the Navy February 17th, 1991, and retired August 31st, 2017, with 26.5 years of service to a grateful nation.

Sharon absolutely loved serving in the Navy and mentored many enlisted corpsman and nurses who were left impressed by her. Sharon loved traveling with Anthony, and a highlight of their Naval service was their three years stationed at a Naval hospital in Naples Italy from 1996 to 1999. They used that as a jumping point to travel as far as Nepal, and Tanzania on a safari to various European countries. Outside of Italy all their duty stations were in Southern California where they moved to their final home in Temecula California in 2004.

After her retirement from the Navy Sharon continued working in various administrative fields of nursing and enjoying time with family and friends until her passing too soon. Mother Teresa said “It is not how much we do, but how much LOVE we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much LOVE we put in the giving.” Sharon gave and cared greatly for those she loved. She was a loving mother, friend, and wife.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 33 years, Anthony Kingsberry; her son, Altin Kingsberry; her daughter, Capria Kingsberry; her mother, Berle Hyman; her sisters Jewell Hyman, and Dexanne Dollard. Sharon was preceded in death by her father Edmond Hyman, and her brother Paul Hyman. Rather than a memorial service Sharon requested that everyone take their own time to remember her in their own way.
