

After graduating from Lufkin High School, Delwin moved to Houston and worked in an electrical shop. While in Houston, he met the love of his life, Linda Jean Ellisor, on a Fourth of July blind date; they have been together ever since. Delwin served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. After returning from his duty, Delwin and Linda married and moved to Lufkin, Texas to start their family, before then moving to Nacogdoches in the Mahl Community in 1973. Delwin began working at the Southland Paper Mill in Lufkin, which he remained at for over 30 years until his retirement. Upon his retirement, Delwin became a full-time cattle rancher. He enjoyed his time working in the pastures, tending to the garden, and fishing in the ponds. Mr. Hightower served as a deacon for Mahl Baptist Church, and was very fond of his church family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Linda Hightower, of Nacogdoches, Texas; his grandchildren, Jacob Hightower and wife Kristen of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Bethani Drake and husband Tanner of Lubbock, Texas; his great-grandson, Tate Scott Drake, of Lubbock, Texas; his sisters, Nell Walker, Carrie Clegg, and Mary Whitley, all of Lufkin, Texas; brothers, Windle Hightower and wife Donna of Huntington, Texas, Bobby Dan Hightower and wife Monica of Lufkin, Texas; sister-in-law, Fran Hightower, of Lufkin, Texas; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Pinner of Lufkin, Texas, and Don Ellisor and wife Shirley, of Crosby, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Delwin is preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Hightower; his brothers, James “Jim” Hightower, Oscar Hightower, Charles Hightower, and Robert Wayne Hightower; his sisters, Betty Pinner and Manda Reynolds; his sisters-in-law, Clara Hightower and Virginia Santiago; and his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Clegg and Robert Walker.
Funeral Services at 10:00 a.m. and Visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. will be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, in Mount Zion Baptist Church in the Moffett Community. Burial will follow in Berry Cemetery.
