Mr. Ash graduated from West Virginia State University in 1959 with a degree in structural drafting. He used his expertise to work as a structural draftsman in piping design and contributed to the design of offshore drilling rigs for companies such as Union Carbide, J. Ray McDermott, and Aker Kvaerner. He married the love of his life, Carol (Cavender) Ash, on June 14, 1958, in Dunbar, West Virginia.
Eddie enjoyed trains and building model railroads and was a member of the Katy Model Railroad Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, growing roses, and tending his gardens. A man of strong faith, he regularly studied his Bible and served his church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He and his family attended First United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches. He was a proud patriot who enjoyed watching Fox News and Gunsmoke. Though he lived in Texas for more than 51 years, he remained a proud West Virginian, with his heart still in his home state.
