Florence was born September 25, 1930 in Moorefield, Arkansas, to Mack H. and Ruth
McLendon as the youngest of seven children.
She attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College) in Batesville, Arkansas. In 1956, she married
R.B. Phillips in Jackson, Mississippi and had two children. For many years, Florence worked from
home as a typist, transcribing documents for court reporters.
Florence and R.B. lived in several homes before moving to Nacogdoches after retirement.
There she worked as a volunteer for Nacogdoches Medical Center and became active in Bonita
Methodist Church.
Florence also enjoyed socializing with the ladies of the Red Hat Society.
Florence is survived by her daughter Linda Ann Yutzy, son Jeffrey Mack Phillips, and grandson
Ian Michael Phillips.
In addition to her husband R.B., Florence was predeceased by her sisters Nannie Maxine
McLendon, Esther Ruth Philpot, Nannie Elizabeth Forrest, and Doris Lee McLendon, and
brothers Mack Hubert McLendon and William Washington McLendon.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Cason-Monk-Metcalf
Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches. Chapel services will be held the following
Monday at Cason-Monk-Metcalf, followed by interment alongside her husband in Peebles
Cemetery in Livingston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Bonita Methodist Church or Love INC
