

Dr. Charles Eugene Russell "Gene" of Nacogdoches died Sunday, July 13, 2025. He was born on September 29, 1935 in Poteet, Texas. He was a Pastor, Insurance Agent, Career Counselor, and Author. He pastored at Eisenhower Road Baptist Church in San Antonio; Florida Street Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina; First Baptist Church in Angleton, Calvary Baptist Church in Desoto, Bellaire Baptist Church in Sharpstown; and in retirement, Lilly Grove Baptist in Nacogdoches, and Burke Baptist in Burke-Lufkin. He held a Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, Master’s of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Doctorate in Theology from Luther Rice Seminary.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, son Chuck and Eileen Russell of Waco, daughters, Candace Sue and John Boothby of Newnan, Georgia; Carol Hughes of Magnolia, Doreen and Mark Scott of Dallas; and Michelle Luse of Akron, Ohio. Gene is survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Edna (Crouch) and Carroll William Russell, brother C.W. and Faye Russell, and his first wife Beverly (Wolf) Russell.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home in Nacogdoches, Texas on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
