Glenda Faye Demaree of Huntington passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Lufkin at the age of 68 years, 10 months, and 13 days. She was born June 25, 1949, in Angelina County to parents Frank and Glenice (Cochran) Williams.
Glenda graduated from Zavalla High School in 1967 as Valedictorian. She then went on to attend Stephen F. Austin State University where she was a Lady Jack, playing on the basketball team. She received her Masters of Education in Physical Education degree from SFA in 1975 and her Masters of Art in Psychology in 2001. She used her education to help teach young children as an elementary math and physical education teacher. She also worked as a mental health therapist at The Rusk State Hospital.
Mrs. Demaree was a serious person who loved her coffee. She would attend her family’s events and games when she could. She loved to sit out on her “happy place” – her front porch. Some of her hobbies were wood carving, hunting, working on cars, and reading. She especially enjoyed reading Old Western Books by Louis L'Amour. Her family considered her a jack of all trades.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, James “Mike” Demaree, Sr.; son, James “Michael” Demaree II and wife Rene’ Michele; grandson, Joshua Michael Demaree; granddaughter, Lillian Mattie Demaree; sisters, Frankie Bickley and husband James, Kay Jones and husband Burlon, Gay Walker and husband Glenn, and Jessica Gavette and husband Robert; brothers, Frank Williams Jr. and Jess Williams and wife LouAnne; and brother-in-law, Mark Demaree.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel officiated by Pastor Keith Bickley. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Bistineau Baptist Church Cemetery in Heflin, Louisiana.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Bistineau Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 195 Bistineau Church Road, Heflin, Louisiana 71039.
