Herbert “Leroy” Sanders was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on February 26, 1958 to Herbert Raythel Sanders and Joyce Juanita Alford. Leroy passed away unexpectedly at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the age of 62. He is survived by his brothers James Sanders and Andy Harrison of Nacogdoches, Texas and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins in Nacogdoches , Garrison, Timpson and Tyler, Texas areas. And his special friend “Miss Cookie” who kept him supplied with Oreos over the years.
Leroy was born with multiple handicaps but attended Nacogdoches ISD as a youngster. Later, he attended the Nacogdoches County Sheltered Workshop.
He loved him a cup of coffee and a package of Oreo cookies to dip along with it.
He loved the Sci-Fi channel and watched Star Trek, Star Wars and Westerns on the Westerns channel. But, his favorites of all were the WWE wrestling shows “Raw”, “NXT” and “Smackdown”. His favorite guy to fuss at was “The Viper” and Leroy often lowered the boom on him and let him know his dislike, edging on loathing, for his evil ways..... often quite loudly.
His favorite Holidays were opening gifts on Christmas morning, Hunting Easter Eggs on Easter Sunday, and Halloween.
Leroy was a lifetime resident of Nacogdoches and was a member of the First Christian Church Family. He attended every Sunday and loved spending time with his friends in the Sunshine Class, as well as the rest of the congregation. He knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior and Leroy showed his light to anyone who bothered to look. He will be missed by all who knew him. A good man and kind soul.
Service details are pending and will be announced as they become available.
