James H Tomlinson, age 85, of Garrison, Texas passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022. James was born December 22, 1936 in Corpus Christi, Texas to parents, James C. Tomlinson and Lillian Heldt Tomlinson.
He owned a meat packing plant in Artesia, New Mexico, after selling it he stayed in the meat packing business until starting a chicken farm in the Mt. Herman Community. James enjoyed raising cows, fishing, anything that had to do with spending time with his family watching his grandsons ride in the Shelby County Drill Team, and was very active with his grandsons with the Martinville FFA including hauling cattle to and from major shows. As a young boy he was active in FFA and in the Boy Scouts, as an adult he was a member of the Hereford Association and was the president and board member of the Mt. Herman Cemetery Association.He and his wife were longtime members of Stallings Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include: wife of 65 years, Sue Tomlinson of Garrison; 2 daughters, Jamie Finney of Tioga, TX and Stacy Piazza and husband Joe Piazza of Garrison, TX; 5 Grandchildren, Shea Meroney, Haley Lambert and husband Joey, Devin Dean and wife Preslie, Dylan Dean and wife Morgan, Dawson Dean; Great grandkids, Payton Meroney, Payslee Meroney, Cayden Riney, Kyler Riney, Zoey Riney, Heston Dean, Barret Dean, and soon to be Haiden Dean; Great-Great grandson, Lucas Meroney; Bonus grandkids, Trey Piazza, Austin Piazza, Hope Piazza, Tony Piazza, Claire Piazza, Nova Piazza, Zander Rubio, and Oakley Meroney; Sister, Iola Gage and husband Ken Gage; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents, Cullen and Lillian Tomlinson; son, James Winton Tomlinson.
He spent the last 6 months in Garrison where he could sit on his porch and enjoy watching his great-grandkids or chase them in the yard.
Special thanks to Dr. Cline and staff, Nacogdoches Medical Center from the ER to the ICU, Heart to Heart Hospice and the Garrison Nursing and Rehab for their great care. And to the folks in the Chireno Community and the Chireno Café for watching over him the last five years.
A visitation for will be held Friday, June 10, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Shelby County, Texas. Services officiated by Randy Harshbarger.
