Jewell Leroy Watson, affectionately known as "Leroy," passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in Nacogdoches, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on September 2, 1941, in Center, Texas, Leroy was the beloved husband of the late Katie Marie Jones Watson and devoted father to his four cherished sons: Stephen, Michael, Matthew and David. He was also a proud grandfather to nine amazing grandchildren: Amy, Carter, Sloan, Ronin, Krissa, Ryan, Connor, Tad and Andrew.
A proud graduate of Center High School, Class of 1959, Leroy furthered his education at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1963. His career as a chemist spanned decades, during which he contributed significantly to industries including rocket propellant at Morton Thiokol and oil drilling support at Baroid Drilling. Leroy dedicated over 40 years at NIBCO, where he specialized in EPA regulations, affirming his deep-rooted passion for science and problem-solving.
Leroy will be remembered for his hardworking nature and love for working with his hands, skills he masterfully passed down to his sons. His passion for car restoration was rivaled only by his love for music, particularly old country tunes. A talented guitar player, he often entertained locally and cherished moments spent dancing at the VFW hall.
Deeply involved in his faith, Leroy and Katie were active members of various churches, concluding their spiritual journey together at the First Christian Church on Mound Street. They built a loving home in Nacogdoches, raising their boys with the aspiration of higher education and successful careers, a dream which they proudly saw fulfilled.
