Joe Edward Biggerstaff, 82, of Nacogdoches passed away, February 3, 2019 in Nacogdoches. He was born on September 6, 1936 to B.W. Biggerstaff and Lois Rector Biggerstaff. Joe married Betty Collins on June 21, 1961. He served his county in the Navy and attended SFASU earning a B.S. in Agriculture. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches.
Joe began working at Bright Coop at the age of 16. Eventually bought out N.G. Bright and was partners with Charles Bright until 1989. Rather than retire, Joe fulfilled his dream of owning a sawmill and thus began Carrizo Wood Products. He worked there up until his illness in 2018.
Joe loved fishing/running trot lines with long-time friend Ray Hardy. As they progressed in age, Keith Drewery joined them as designated boat driver.
Club memberships include: Grand Lodge of Texas- Master Mason, Commandery of Knights Templar, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry 32nd degree, Shriners, Gideons, Deacon at First Baptist Church, Member of NISD board of trustees 1974-76, and member of Fireside Sunday School Class at First Baptist.
He is survived by daughters; Angie Cadman and husband Phillip, Dovie Carrell and husband Phil; grandchildren; Catie Cadman, Russell Carrell and Colin Carrell; sister, Jean Boatman and husband James; special friends, Jackie Prince and Ray Hardy; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife of 53 years, Betty Collins Biggerstaff.
Funeral services will be held, 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 6, 2019, First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches. Entombment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Russell Carrell, Collin Carrell, Tim Hardy, Keith Drewery, Inosente Garcia, and Mike Boatman.
