

Johnny Wayne Rumsey passed from this life on January 27, 2026, in Wells, Texas. He was born January 6, 1948, and raised in Orange, Texas, the son of Calvin and Erla Ruth (Cooper) Rumsey. He attained the age of 78 years.
Johnny’s high school days were in Orange, Texas, where he played football. He went on to attend college and play football for two more years. On April of 1969, he joined the United States Army where he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Bars, the Army Commendation Medal, a Sharpshooter Medal for the M-14 Rifle, Expert Medal for the M-16 Rifle, and Marksman for the .45 Caliber Pistol, and attained the rank of Sergeant prior to his Honorable discharge. When he returned home, he went to work for The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he served for 30 + years.
On January 9, 1993, he was united in marriage to Margaret Louis Lanham. At his passing, they had been married for 33 years. After his retirement, they moved to Hemphill, Texas and a short period of time later became a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; two sons, Johnny Wayne Rumsey, Jr. of New Waverly, Texas and Anthony Rumsey of Ellsworth, Maine; two stepsons, Carl and Aaron Wilson, both of Center, Texas; one stepdaughter, April Wilson of Shelbyville, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Sister, Gwen Atkinson of Bridge City, Texas; Brother, Lyndon Rumsey of Olympia, Washington.
He loved hunting, fishing, family and friends. He truly enjoyed ministering and visiting with other church members. Johnny will be missed!
A visitation will be held at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75965, on February 14, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life to follow at the same location from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
