

She was born January 2, 1918, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mrs. Howard was a former longtime resident of Amarillo before moving to Nacogdoches County in 2006 to be near her grandchildren after her health began to decline.
She retired from Montgomery Ward in 1979 after several years of service as a bookkeeper.
She was a charter member of Moose Lodge #1150, having joined in 1949, and served in many capacities in her Chapter in addition to fulfilling many appointments at the International level. These included Academy of Friendship, May 1952; Senior Regent, 1952-1953; Junior Graduate Regent, 1953-1954; College of Regents Degree, 1955; appointed Deputy Grand Regent of State of Texas, 1955-1956; received Star Recorder, June 1962; College of Regents Board Member, 1964-1966; President of College Regents, 1966-1967; Grand Council Member, 1969-1971; and Grand Regent, 1987-1988.
Margaret began volunteering with RSVP on October 16, 1990, and volunteered until October 2006. During this time she put in 7,277 volunteer hours. Organizations which she volunteered with and gave of time of and talents include RSVP Bulk Mail, Alzheimer’s Association, Ronald McDonald House, Amarillo Adult Literacy, Texas Health and Human Services, Amarillo Area Crisis Pregnancy Center, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Amarillo College, Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Margaret Wells Elementary School, American Cancer Society, Texas Workforce Commission, VFW, High Plains Baptist Hospital—an impressive list of organizations she helped during her retirement.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Diann Williamson and husband Wayne of Cushing; grandson, Steven Holloway of Nacogdoches; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Williamson and wife Melissa, Joseph Williamson, Sophia Mantilla and husband Joey, Seleste Holloway, and Stephany Holloway; and four great-great-grandchildren, Tanlei Williamson, Kylei Williamson, Azlyn Williamson, and Zaina Mantilla.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Howard, in 1991 after 45 years of marriage; daughter, Joella Inez Latham; parents, Isaac and Pauline Atchley; and a sister, Inez Evans.
Funeral services are set for 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2012, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas, with Bro. Ed Williamson officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 19, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
