She was born on November 11, 1932, in Alamance County, North Carolina, to Lena Brown Sutton and John Sutton. A dedicated and hardworking student, Marjorie was the valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She went on to attend Elon University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education, supporting herself by sewing hose during the summers.
Marjorie was a proud Gold Star widow of Major Hadley Foster, honoring his service and sacrifice throughout her life. After his passing, she raised three children under the age of 10, remaining steadfast in her commitment to fulfilling his wish that their children receive a strong education.
She devoted 25 years to teaching elementary school in Manassas, Virginia, and San Antonio, Texas. She especially loved teaching fourth grade and sharing her passion for Texas History. Her dedication to her students left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Marjorie was an active and engaged member of her community. She was a charter member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church and participated faithfully in church life. She was also deeply involved in her children’s activities, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, always volunteering her time and support.
She had many hobbies and interests. Marjorie was a tennis player who competed in tournaments and won several trophies. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, baking, and crocheting. In later years, when she was less able to get out, she found meaningful purpose in writing letters of encouragement to others who were homebound, a ministry that brought comfort and connection to many.
She is survived by her son, Hadley Foster and his wife Sarah; daughters, Linda McKnight and her husband Roger, and Elizabeth Foster Keller and her husband Todd Keller. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Hadley Foster and his wife Jeffri, Joseph Foster and his wife Kristen, Macey McKnight-Whitney and her husband Jon Whitney, Hadley Brown and her husband Nathan Brown, Ian Pugh, Sinclair Keller, and Ali Asmaeil; and her great-grandchildren: Callan Foster, Darci Foster, Amberlee Foster, Dawson Foster, Annie Foster, and Ella Foster. She is further survived by her sister, Shelvia Sutton Russell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lena Sutton; her beloved husband, Major Hadley Foster; and eight of her siblings.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Henry Health Care Services—Rhonda Henry, Roise Wade, Vanessa Waters, Areall Jones, and Marilyn Garrett—and to Harbor Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Shearer Hills Baptist Church (Family Care or the Library), 360 Interpark Blvd., San Antonio, Texas 78216, or to Gold Star Wives, P.O. Box 279, Kimberly, Alabama 35091.
