Martha Lee Jackson, aged 94, passed away on February 11, 2026. Born on January 5, 1932, at home in Pelican, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Osie Walker and Ruth Lillian (Summerlin) Moore. Martha was one of four children and was raised in Mansfield, LA, where she attended Mansfield High School.
Martha was an adventurous, faithful, and loyal individual. She was one of the original "telephone operators" who responded with "Number Please" and worked through the era of rotary phones, eventually advancing to the business office. Her career spanned over 35 years with Southwestern Bell, which later became AT&T, before she retired.
She was united in marriage with J Dalton Jackson. During their retirement, they sold their home, bought a motorhome, and traveled the United States for three years. After her husband passed away, Martha found herself alone in Louisiana, but her siblings ensured she was not alone for long. Her sister, Jerrie Sue, and her husband Curtis invited her to live on their acreage in Douglass, Texas. Soon after, in 2017, her brother George joined them and became a wonderful caretaker for her over the past eight years.
Martha is survived by her brother, George Moore, and sister, Jerrie Sue Holland with her husband Curtis, all of Douglass; seven nieces, three nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Osie Walker and Ruth Lillian Moore; her husband, J Dalton Jackson; and one brother, Osie Ray Moore.
Martha loved to do needlepoint, creating beautiful large framed pieces, and she was a collector of frogs. She also adored orchids. In her youth, Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, LA, and she was a current member of the First Baptist Church of Douglass, Texas.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the Douglass Cemetery, officiated by Bro. Randy Arnold. Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Douglass, the Douglass Community Food Pantry, or Heart 2 Heart Hospice of Nacogdoches.
