

Funeral services for Mittie Lee “Smittie” Burkhalter, 85, of Garrison, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at Sunset Chapel, Cason Monk-Metcalf . Interment will follow at Cold Springs Cemetery in Garrison, Texas.
Smittie was born on April 9, 1925, in Logansport, Louisiana, to Sam and Sallie Miller Martin and passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010, in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Smittie lived in the Garrison area and was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Garrison Church of Christ.
She is survived by her daughters Linda Fancher of Nacogdoches, Texas , and Brenda Shull of Garrison, Texas; grandchildren, Angie King and husband Kenneth of Nacogdoches, Texas, Amy Smith and husband Steve of Nacogdoches, Texas, Jessica Shull of Garrison, and Justin Shull of Garrison; great-grandchildren, Kolten King, Addisen King, Kaylee King, and Brooke Smith all of Nacogdoches, Texas; Sister-in-law, Maurine Burkhalter of Nacogdoches, Texas; Brothers-in-law, Chester Burkhalter and wife Ruth of Nederland, Texas, and Venyard Burkhalter and wife Betty of Nacogdoches, Texas: numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Odessa Powdrill and Lois Griffin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Wilburn L. Burkhalter; parents, Sam and Sallie Martin; son-in-law, Kenneth Fancher; brothers, Willie Martin, Malloy Taylor, and Andrew Martin; and sisters, Gladys Hughes and Nettie Barber.
Pallbearers will be Justin Shull, Kenneth King, Kolten King, Steve Smith , E.J. Barber, Gary Barber, and Wayne Barber.
Songs for the service will be rendered by Mike Burkhalter, James Burkhalter, Gayle Stokes, and Curtis Smith.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2010, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
