Nell Crofton

Nell was born in San Augustine, Texas, on July 23, 1935 to Bertie Mae Richardson. She dedicated part of her working life to Southwestern Bell and also proudly owned and operated her own clothing store. She was known for her strong work ethic, creativity, and warm spirit.

Nell had a deep love for life’s simple joys. She enjoyed painting ceramics, tending to flowers, and traveling—especially trips to Florida. Above all, she treasured time with her family, often bringing everyone together with her cooking, especially her beloved gumbo.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie McCartney; her grandchildren, Heath McCartney and wife Jammie, Barrett Dudley and wife Melissa, Clay Dudley and wife Lecia; her great-grandchildren, Dillon Pipes, Sean McCartney and wife Bailey, Ryan Dudley, Connor Dudley, Killion Dudley, her great great grandchild Kai McCartney, her sister, Linda Wheless and husband Kenneth, and Shelia Merland

Nell was preceded in death by her husband, John Crofton; her son-in-law, Rickey McCartney; her mother, Bertie Mae Willis; her daughter, Derinda Dudley; and her brother-in-law, David Merland.

Nell will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation for Nell will be held Monday, April 6, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
