Ralph was born on April 5, 1937, in Macon Georgia. He was born in the wake of the depression, but this did not dampen his spirit for romping in the woods, which gave him a lifelong love for the outdoors and gave him material for his infamous one-line expressions.
Ralph joined the Army in 1954, through which he traveled the world and broadened his perspective. The Army gave him a career, helped him continue his education, gave him the means to raise and support his family and provided him with a lifelong brotherhood of fellow soldiers. Ralph loved being outside, gardening, orcharding, hunting, fishing and generally being with the dogs that were always a part of his life.
Ralph’s homelife was shared by Elaine (Chandarlis), his wife of 48 years. Ralph and his former spouse Maja (deVerse) had four children, Jayne (Brian), June (Randy), Jeff (Ana) and Jon (Mary Anne). Ralph met Elaine, along with her sons Bob (Stacy) and Tim (Heather) in December of 1975. Ralph and Elaine married and joined their families on January 21, 1977. Ralph is survived by Elaine, their combined family of children, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, November 12th at 9:00 A.M. in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.
