

Bob was born on October 29, 1938 in Cushing, Texas to Layton Sitton and Angie Elweno Dawson Sitton.
He graduated from Cushing High School in 1956, SFA in 1960 and received his Master’s degree from Sam Houston in 1969. Bob was a teacher and coach at Cushing High School, C.E. King High School in Houston and Klein High School in Spring. He made it to State Finals in football and basketball. Bob was named 1970 District Coach of the Year.
He joined the SFA staff in 1972, and spent the next 26 years at the helm of the SFA Alumni Association. Bob stepped down as executive director in 1998 but remained with the organization on a part-time basis as the association’s public relations director. He retired fully in 2006. Bob received the alumni association’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1998 and was inducted into the university athletic department’s Jacks of Honor in 2003. In 2015, he received the Hall of Fame Alumni Award. During Homecoming 2021, he was honored again as the annual Homecoming golf tournament was renamed the Bob Sitton Classic and the dedication of the new Bob Sitton Head Men's Basketball Coach Office at Johnson Coliseum. He continued to serve as an SFA ambassador in his retirement through his work on alumni-related projects. Bob was former chairman of the College Alumni Directors of Texas and a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Council of Alumni Association Directors, Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, Gideons, Lions Club, Rotary, and a member at Grace Bible Church.
He enjoyed duck carving, hunting, golf, sporting events, and reading the Dave Campbell's' Texas Football magazine.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Karen Stacy and husband Tim; son, Karl Sitton; brother, Danny Sitton; brother-in-law, H.E. Buddy Russell and wife Debbie; sister-in-law, Nancy Harrison; grandchildren, Caleb, Mary Grace, Daniel and John and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; sister, Betty Turner; son, Kevin and granddaughter, Hannah Joy Stacy.
A visitation for Bob will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, 9:00-11:00 AM at Grace Bible Church, 2305 Raguet St, Nacogdoches, TX, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Following the funeral service, Bob will be laid to rest in Rock Springs Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas.
