He was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Shelby County. Mr. Hooper was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked as a laborer.
Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Walter Terrell of Trinity, Shirley Slaughter and Ken Hicks of Huntington, and Mary and Bill Bardwell of Lufkin; son Richard Hooper of Pollok; step-children, Carol Branton of Nacogdoches, Danny Bridges of Lufkin, and Arthur Bridges of Huntington; brother, Verlon Hooper of Center; sisters, Essie Soape and Vivian Luman, both of Aiken; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Vernice Hooper; and a sister, Dessie Knight.
Graveside services are set for 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at White Rock Cemetery on Hwy. 7 in Shelby County with Bro. Garrel Faulkner officiating.
