Violet Ann Corley was born April 2, 1957 to Arlon Conrad Corley and Jessie Melba Minter Corley at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. She passed away on March 12, 2021. She was a lifelong resident of Nacogdoches County.
Violet was an outstanding student with a strong work ethic. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1975 as Salutatorian of her class. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University and perused a major in business/accounting. After being employed by Alexander and Rogers Accounting Firm as an accountant, she returned to SFASU as an instructor, after obtaining her master’s degree. As a young mother, she and her family moved to Denton, Texas, where she obtained her Doctorate degree in accounting from North Texas State University. She returned to SFA to teach in the accounting department, moving into the position of Department Head for accounting, and later as Dean of the Nelson Rusche School of Business. She was very successful in her role as dean, receiving many awards and accolades including the Distinguished Professor Award in 1999. She retired from SFA in 2015 and she and her husband, John enjoyed a quiet life at home. She enjoyed working her yard, caring for her beloved cats and dogs, spending time with family and quiet evenings on the patio with John.
Violet had two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie. Her role as mother was one of her greatest joys and accomplishments. She loved her daughters and was an advocate for them throughout their youth, always making sure they had every opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and through many extra-curricular activities such as dance, gymnastics, cheer, or whatever they were interested in. Despite working full time at a very demanding job, she always made time to participate in every activity her girls were involved in, from sleepovers, to fundraisers, to planning and decorating for special events. They were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church and were active in many activities there as well.
On August 18, 2007, Violet married Dr. John Goodall. They bought a beautiful house together and enjoyed making their house a home. Their family grew to include sons-in-law’s and grandchildren whom she adored.
She is preceded in death by her father; Conrad Corley.

Violet always lived life to its fullest, whether she was cooking, planning fun activities, snow skiing with her family, or entertaining friends and family. Her outgoing personality and boundless energy made her a favorite among her family, friends, colleagues, and students. Violet was very creative and her hobbies of painting, quilting, cross stitching, gardening, cooking, and decorating allowed for an outlet for her creativity.
Violet remained kind hearted and caring. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will remain forever in our hearts.
