William Rex "Bill" Davis of Douglass passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at his home at the age of 72. He was born December 10, 1947, in Kilgore to parents Rex Laverne Davis and Wanda Lou (Butler) Davis. Bill spent the last 28 years with his beloved wife, Angie Davis, 20 of which they have lived in Douglass, Texas. Bill enjoyed working with and meeting the people in the community.
Bill was a Christian and enjoyed conversations about biblical events. He was proud of his Native American Heritage with the Otoe-Missouria Tribe on his father’s side. He believed in “THE GREAT SPRIRIT”, being God. He enjoyed life, laughter, friendships, and family. Although he didn’t get to spend much time with them, he never stopped loving his girls, and he never stopped reminiscing about past friendships. He very much enjoyed the country life: working the farm, tending to livestock, building things, sitting on the front porch with his wife and family admiring the wildlife. He enjoyed woodworking, grilling and playing dominoes. Bill was a guitar player and lover of music of all kinds: hymnals, country, rhythm and blues, big band (which is his mother taught him to dance to), and Latino music.
During his school years in Premont, Texas, Bill was given the prestigious honor as an All-American Athlete. He enjoyed all sports. He was put in as starter in Little League Baseball, football and basketball. He received a partial Academic and Full Athletic Scholarship from Oklahoma State University. He started as a freshman in the position of defensive tackle. While attending college he was again honored and recognized as an All-American Athlete. He received offers from NFL teams such as the New Orleans Saints, among others.
In his early career he worked overseas on oil and gas drilling sites as a Wireline Engineer for Halliburton Company. This work brought him to the countries of Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. Prior to the oil field, he enjoyed working on the King Ranch in South Texas. He also volunteered time to coach little league and work with other various youth groups.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael Rex Davis; and sister, Janice Marie Pinckard.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 28 years, Angie Davis of Douglass; children, Margo Rios and son-in-law Gerald Rios of San Antonio, Monavee Davis and Monika Davis of El Campo, and Leslie Ann Davis; siblings, Tom Davis of Hempstead, TX and Jenny Grogan and brother-in-law JW Grogan of Luling, TX; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Douglass with Bro. Randy Arnold officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
