Lloyd Louis Liles, 86, of Cudjoe Key, FL, passed away on Feb 5, 2023 after a long life filled with doing the things he loved with the people who brought him joy. Lloyd was born in Birmingham, AL to Ethel Aramenta Dawson and Arthur Louis Liles on Feb 17th, 1936. He had an extremely curious mind and as a child and teenager he read every single science fiction and many advanced technical books in his local library. He remained an avid reader for his entire life.
Lloyd is a proud Navy veteran and owes many of his passions to his 5 years of military service. First and foremost he met and married the love of his life, Milagros Baez Liles, while stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Milagros preceded Lloyd to heaven in 2012. Their only child, Lillian Lucinda Liles, was born during his assignment on the island. While stationed in Hong Kong he developed his second love, sailing. Over the course of his life he owned several sailing yachts and found being out on the water one of God’s great blessings. Lastly while in the Navy, he became highly skilled in Electronics and Communications which led to his successful career in Technical Writing.
Lloyd’s other great love was music. He enjoyed all types of stringed instrument genres but had a special place in his heart for Bluegrass music. Self taught with an innate talent for playing by ear, he loved to dabble with guitar, dobro and banjo and as a member of the South Florida Bluegrass Association he ran their sound system for many years and served as a past President.
Lloyd is survived by his daughter Lillian Lucinda Sams and son-in-law James Andrew Sams as well as his beloved grandchildren Phoebe Johanna Habeck, Brian Andrew Sams and Kristin Rene Sams. He's predeceased by his siblings Flora Eugenia Liles, Thomas Franklin Liles, Arnold Wesley Liles, Sarah Catherine Mayer and James Carol Liles.
Services will be held on Sat Feb 18th at Caballero Rivero Palms Woodlawn in Naranja, FL. Visitation will be available starting at 10am followed by a memorial service in the chapel at noon and ending at the burial site,
