Palmetto Bay, FL – On September 27, 2021, Theodore Thomas Nicholeris passed away, peacefully, after a long illness.
The first born child of parents Menelaus and Sophia Nicholeris, Theodore Nicholeris was known to many, more fondly, as “Ted” or “Teddy.” He was born on October 23, 1949.
In the spring of 1968, Ted graduated high school from the Huntington Preparatory School for Boys in Boston, Massachusetts. He then went on to major in Music Education at Boston University where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a performance specialty in percussion.
As a teen, Ted became active in drum and bugle corps. That involvement grew to become a constant source of satisfaction throughout his life and musical career. Ted first played snare drum with the Sir Thomas More Cadets of Braintree, Massachusetts, and then, later, with the Boston Crusaders of Hyde Park and Boston, Massachusetts. Along with his experience as a percussionist, Ted’s ability as a drumline player led him to continue his involvement in the activity as a contest percussion judge for organizations such as Drum Corps International (DCI), Drum Corps Associates (DCA), the New England Scholastic Band Association (NESBA), and the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA).
Soon after graduating from Boston University’s School for the Arts as a certified music specialist, Ted held music teaching positions in the Dartmouth Public Schools and the Whitman Public Schools in Massachusetts. After moving to Florida in 1991, Ted continued to teach music in the public schools, first in Homestead and then in Palmetto Bay, Florida. Ted retired from teaching in 2020.
It was in Florida that Ted met his wife, Janice. They were married on December 31, 2004.
Ted was an avid fisherman who most enjoyed squidding and saltwater surf-casting on Cape Cod shores. He also enjoyed family camping adventures and trips to the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Ted is survived by his wife of 16 years, Janice Nicholeris; a daughter, Jacqueline Nicholeris; a stepson, Christian Flynn; a brother, Nicholas Nicholeris; a sister, Carol Nicholeris; a sister, Diane Nicholeris; and numerous cousins.
Visitation and a graveside service will be held at the Caballero Rivero Palms Woodlawn Park located at 27100 Old Dixie Highway, Naranja, Florida, 33032.
A Celebration of Life at a Massachusetts location will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Hospital, Kendall, Florida.
