

Anthony “Tony” DuBois, 37, of Nashua, NH Passed away on Wednesday morning, January 8, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital after a courageous battle with Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy. He was born March 29, 1976 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; a son of Joseph W. DuBois Jr., and the late Sabine G. Weinmann of Germany.
Tony lived most of his life in Nashua, NH and was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 7 years old. He had been confined to a wheelchair since the age of 12. In the year 2004, he faced another complication and needed a ventilator to breathe. Within the last year, he was placed on a continuous feeding regimen, but through it all he never lost his sense of humor and love of life. He made each day count, laughing with his buddies, vacationing to Maine in the summers, going to concerts and enjoying people he met. He lived in his own handicapped-accessible apartment downstairs in the house that he shared with his parents. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds yet he was an avid New England Patriots and NASCAR fan. He loved music of all kinds yet his favorite was jazz. Tony will be greatly missed by his two shih-zu puppies, Sly and Allie, whom he loved dearly. Tony was blessed with the most devoted friends that he knew since 1st-2nd grade and thought of like family: Curtis, Steve, Cody, Kurt and Jay. Weekends were always spent going places with his buddies or just hanging out in his apartment watching the sports games. Tony will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of life, kind heart and enormous strength in the face of adversity. He never faltered in achieving his goals and was an example and role model to all that knew him.
His academic achievements were many and he had aspired to be a lawyer one day. In 2011 he ran for State Representative for Nashua District which he was unsuccessful at yet he enjoyed the entire experience especially when he was able to address the NH Senate about disability issues. In 2000, he earned a certificate for Living Well with Disabilities. In 2006, he earned his Associates Degree from Nashua Community College in Business Administration. In 2010, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree, (Magna Cum Laude) from Southern NH University. During this achievement, he was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda at SNU Sigma Psi Honor Society.
Tony is survived by his father, Joseph W. DuBois, Jr. and his “stepmom”, Janet E. DuBois, of Nashua, a brother, Joseph F. DuBois, III, and his wife, Mary of Gilmanton, NH; two sisters: Kassandra Ladd and Jennifer Comer of Belmont, NH; one niece, Emily DuBois and two Nephews, Joseph “Joey” Dubois, IV and Adrian McFall. He is also survived by an uncle, James Gilfillan, an aunt, Patricia Gilfillan of Tewksbury, MA. Two Cousins; Kevin and Robert Gilfillan of Tewksbury. Also he is survived by an uncle, Rudy Winterburger and aunt Sylvia Winterburger of Germany. Two cousins Alexander Schweizer and Anuschka Schweizer of Germany. He is also survived by two stepbrothers and two stepsisters; Jackie Denslow of Rindge, NH, Bill Roach of Valhalla, NY, Wesley Roach of Brookline, MA and Victoria Roach of Manchester, NH.
He was predeceased by his mother, Sabine G. Weinmann. His maternal Grandparents Hilda and Franz Weinmann and his paternal grandparents Joseph and Helen DuBois.
Visiting hours were held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley Street, Nashua, NH. A funeral service was held at 10:00am Wednesday January 15, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment followed in the NH State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Pine Tree Place, Bedford, NH 03110.
