Born on June 4, 1974, to Russell Marcum and Marie Barrett, Jill blossomed into an esteemed attorney, dedicating over two decades of her life to the practice of law. Her vitality and vigor will be missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her, whether professionally or personally.
Jill's story began in Hudson, NH, where she attended Presentation of Mary Academy before achieving honors at Mount Saint Mary High School in Nashua, NH. She was a bright member of The National Honor Society, graduating in 1992. She later pursued a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1996.
With ambition kindled within her, Jill ventured to Las Vegas, inspired by her uncle, Bill Barrett of Las Vegas, and launched a fulfilling career in the Juvenile Justice System for the City of Las Vegas. However, her aspirations didn't pause there. After two industrious years, Jill chose to broaden her horizons and returned to New England to attend the Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, MA, where she was a member of the Law Review. True to her determined spirit, she split her time, studying in Boston and interning in Las Vegas at the firm Beckley Singleton, which would later become her first professional base after attaining her law degree circa 2000.
Throughout her illustrious legal career, Jill's contributions were marked by her passionate advocacy and her unwavering resolve to uphold justice. Among her notable Las Vegas accomplishments:
• Attorney (2001-2007) at Beckley Singleton
• Senior Associate Attorney (2007-2010) at Lewis and Roca
• Founding Shareholder (2010-2020) at Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smock & Stewart, P.C.
• Attorney (2020-Present) at Hone Law
• Top 50 Women of the Mountain States selected by Super Lawyers, 2014-2023
• Rising Stars, 2011-2013
• Best Lawyers, 2024
Jill's enduring legacy is reflected in the love and laughter she shared with her family, including her two sons: Gabriel, a junior at Bishop Gorman High School, and Joseph, a 5th grader. They were the beacons of her life, and she embraced motherhood with all the zest she applied to every facet of her existence.
Jill is survived by her significant other, Ken Ridgway, her mother, Marie Barrett of Bradford, NH, and AZ, her father, Russell Marcum, and wife Joan, of Hollis, NH; her devoted siblings, Matthew and his wife, Katlynn, of Exeter, NH, and Johanna (Annie) Marcum-Colby and her husband, Casey, of Bradford, NH, her niece Hannah and nephew Nick. She balanced her role as a mother alongside that of a daughter, sister, and friend. She is also survived by Jesus Garcia, the father of her sons, alongside a loving constellation of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
As we navigate this time of loss, we are consoled by the indelible impact Jill imparted through her joy, intelligence, and the strength of her character. Her life was a testament to the possibility that lies within passion and hard work, and she will forever be an inspiration to all who knew her.
Jill Marcum Garcia's story does not conclude here; her spirit continues in every life she touched, every case she championed, and most poignantly, in the budding futures of her sons, who will carry forward her legacy of excellence and integrity.
