Nécrologie de Betty Jean Woods-Howard
Long ago, in a little farmhouse back in the hills of Brown County, a little girl named Betty Jean was born on September 8th, 1924 to William and Nora Huber. The youngest of ten, Betty Jean lost her mother at the age of 8, and so was raised by her siblings. They all preceded her in death. She grew up off of Yellowwood road and attended school in Nashville, graduating in 1942. She married Ancil Woods in 1945, to that union were born three children, David, June, and Dennis. Ancil preceded her in death in 2005. At the age of 83, she married Edgar Howard, a classmate from the class of 1942. Edgar had three adult children, Barry, Jeffrey, and Kimberly, whom she loved as her own. Ed preceded her in death in 2016. She was a longtime member of Nashville Christian Church. Faith, Family, and Friends meant the world to her, and she was always eager to share her faith. Betty is survived by three children, David (Cindy) Woods, of Greenfield, IN, June (Tom) Floyd, of Nashville, IN, and Dennis (Connie) Woods, of Tucson, AZ; ten grandchildren, Julie, DeAnna, Amy, Rebekah, Jill, Abigail, Jonathan, Adam, Elijah, Seth, and nineteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six nieces and one nephew, Judy, Beverly, Lana Kay, Lucy, Darlene, Sandy, and Phillip. Miss Betty was a dearly beloved mother, “Nana”, and friend who was known for her compassion for people, hospitality, spunk, and lipstick…she never left home without it. She is remembered as the “Nana” who brought sherbet to her grandchildren when they were feeling ill, the fashionable woman with always perfectly manicured nails, and as the friend who knew exactly how to brighten your day with a single rose in a bud vase. Later in life, she enjoyed attending her Silver Sneakers exercise group, socializing with her neighbors, taking daily walks, and was still passionate about ironing. A visitation will be held at Nashville Christian Church Thursday, October 22nd from 2pm-8pm, and a Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, October 23rd at 1pm, also at Nashville Christian Church. Masks will be required. Online condolences may be given at www.bondmitchellfuneralhome.com.
