Edith Claire Harding, 92, died June 3 in Nashville, In Edith was born in North Providence R.I. and moved to Tracy, California in 1945 after marrying David Andrew Harding, a yardmaster for the Southern Pacific Railroad. After being a Tracyite for nearly 55 years, at the age of 78, Edith relocated to Nashville, Indiana where her daughter Kim Harding (Jones) resides. Her oldest daughter, Cindy Harding (Nannarelli) lives in Florence, Italy.
Those who knew Edith knew her to be an outgoing and energetic spirit who spent most of her waking hours in her kitchen. She loved donning an apron to cook, cook, cook, for friends, family and neighbors. Her savory dishes, and generosity will deeply be missed. Although Edith would tell you she didn’t like to fly (her first plane ride, a short jaunt, about 30 minutes, from Stockton, CA to Fresno to visit daughter Cindy who was studying there in the 70’s) Edith proceeded to cross the big pond numerous times over the last three decades to visit Cindy in Italy. Her last trip to the ‘old world’ was a mere18 months ago. Needless to say, a traveler at heart.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Alesandro) Nannarelli of Florence, Italy, and Kim (Frank) Jones of Nashville; Five grandchildren, Andrea & Matteo Nannarelli, Alison and Cody Jones, and Silas (Rachel) Jones and three great-granddaughters. A brother, Alphonso Barbato Jr. of Westerly, R.I.; and Janice Harding Clark, Portland Oregon.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 47 years, David Andrew Harding; parents, Alphonso Barbato and Maria Di Tomasso, and siblings Julia, Joseph and Frank Barbato and Viola Berbari.
A funeral mass and luncheon will be held at St Agnes Church in Nashville, IN on Wednesday July 2 at 11:00am.
A celebration of life graveside service for burial with her husband will be held in September at the Tracy Memorial Cemetery in Tracy CA. The exact day is to be announced.
