James “Jim” Herman Hays, age 79, of Nashville, Indiana passed away Saturday morning, November 22, 2025, at the Brown County Health and Living Center. Born January 27, 1946, in New Albany, Indiana, he was the son of Charles William (Betty) and Margaret (Richards) Hays. Prior to his retirement, Jim worked as a sales manager for Wiremold of Hartford, Connecticut. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Jim also enjoyed woodworking, cooking, playing golf, playing cards and working in his yard.
Jim is survived by his youngest daughter, Sherry Hays Timmerman of Elizabeth, Indiana, one grandson, Garrett Mixon of Austin, Texas, one son-in-law, Brent D’Alessio of The Villages, Florida, two sisters-in-law, Helen (Walter) Scott, of Mesa, Arizona, Val (Doug) Tingley, of Clarksville, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia “Patty” Hays in 2017, his eldest daughter, Theresa Hays Mixon D’Alessio (4/22/2025) of The Villages, Florida, his sister, Deanna Lowe and his brother, Charles William Hays, Jr., both from New Albany, Indiana and sister-in-law, Jeannie (Wayne) Stewart, of Lexington, Indiana.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 11am, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1008 McClary Rd, Nashville, Indiana. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the mass at the church. A luncheon will be served after mass by the ladies of St Agnes Guild, and a private burial of his ashes will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville.
