

Leland ‘Dale’ Crandall died peacefully at his home on Tuck Away Ridge in Nashville, Indiana, on Aug. 22, 2020, having succumbed to the Alzheimer’s disease from which he had suffered for over a decade. He was 87 years old and passed surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Dale Crandall was born in Indianapolis on April 30, 1933 to Henry Raymond Crandall of Mitchell, Indiana and Charlotte Pearl (Jones) Crandall of Huron, Indiana. He was the ninth of 10 children and was the last surviving sibling.
Dale served in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Germany, as a member of the Red One Army Medics Unit. After leaving active military duty, he served in the Army Reserves from 1955 until 1961.
During his civilian life, Dale was a sales representative for Jim Gordon Inc. and others, working from 1955 to 2007 selling business equipment throughout Indiana.
Dale Crandall was raised a Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) in Indianapolis and Trafalgar but over the course of his life, he also lived in Nashville, Lafayette, Waldron and Columbus, Indiana. He served as a deacon in the Lafayette and Columbus, Indiana churches through the mid 1970s. In 2015, Dale returned to the SDA church of Bloomington when he and the love of his life, Barbara Sumner, re-married after being apart for nearly 40 years.
Dale Crandall is survived by his wife of 28 years (total) Barbara Sumner, son Stephen Crandall and daughter Christy Crandall; grandson Matthew Crandall and wife Gabrielle (Barrett) Crandall, Riley Ralston Crandall and Liam Ralston Crandall; great-grandsons Wyatt Crandall, Braylan Smith, and Zeke Crandall and great-granddaughters Laura Crandall and Kiya Crandall.
The family will have a private, graveside service at a yet-to-be-determined date. Memorial contributions may be made to any Alzheimer’s research organization.
