Leslie Deckard

Leslie Deckard, age 90, of Nashville passed away on Thursday, January 12 at the Brown County Community Health and Living. He was battling Lymphoma-Leukemia. Born June 8, 1921 in Brown County, he was the son of Lonnie and Elsie Mae (Floyd) Deckard. He married Erlena Owens on March 5, 1941 in Monroe county and she survives.

Leslie loved the outdoors. In addition to working his farm on Yellowwood Road he had been property manager at Yellowwood State Forest from 1950 to 1953. He was caretaker and property manager for Gregg Ransburg Tree Farm Properties in Brown, Jackson and Monroe counties from 1953 through the early 1980’s. Since his retirement until recently he had overseen the Duncan Cemetery in Brown County. His knowledge of the history and stories of the Belmont and surrounding area will be missed.

Surviving with his wife, Erlena are three daughters; Sharon Ayres and her husband, Jim, of Bloomington, Faye Deckard, of Bloomington and Lana Wrightsman and her husband, Ed, of Nashville; two sons, Jeffrey Deckard and his wife, Cathy, Curtis Deckard and his wife, Shelly, all of Nashville, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Herman, Louie and Joseph Deckard, all of the Columbus area and Lonnie Deckard, Jr. of Nashville; three sisters, Lucille Stevens, of Bloomington, Maxine Braswell, of Juliett, Georgia and Peggy Armstrong, of Morrow, Ohio. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Cecil Deckard.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home in Nashville with Bruce Bond and Earl Piper officiating. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

The family asks that friends consider donations to the Duncan Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund or to the American Cancer Society in Leslie’s memory.
