Versil Dudley Jr.

Versil Dudley Jr, 89, was born on May 30, 1935, in Hancock County near Wilkinson, IN. He passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Healthpark Medical Center in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was the son of Versil Sr., and Margaret (Cross) Dudley. He grew up in Wilkinson and graduated in 1955 from Wilkinson High School. He was known as “JR” by family and friends.

JR married Sandra (Sue) Roland on June 23, 1956, in Warrington, Indiana. They had six children; four daughters; Brenda (Jay) Carender of Bonita Springs, FL; Vicki (John) Schwering of Greensburg, IN; Lisa Vickers (life partner Mike Baker), of Columbus, IN; Karen (Joe) Schwering of Greensburg, IN; two sons; Brian (Cindy) Dudley, of Indianapolis; and Brett (Julianne) Dudley, of Nashville, IN.

JR and Sue have lived in Wilkinson, Indiana and Nashville, Indiana. They started as snowbirds living in Bonita Springs, FL and became full time residents there.

He is survived by eight grandchildren: Holli, Beth, Jason, Joshua, Travis, Evan, Dakota and Chelsea. He also adored his ten great-grandchildren; Alex, Mackenzie, Madison, Olivia, Mallory, Mariah, Landon, Oliver, Evander, and Elliott.

JR is also survived by one sibling, Don (Loretta) Dudley of Columbus, GA

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sue who passed November 12, 2016, parents; Versil Sr. and Margaret, granddaughter, Dacia Schwering, who passed on October 13, 2022, grandson, Brandon Dudley, who passed on August 4, 2013, and son-in-law, Jack Vickers, in 2015. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Wesley and Gerald Dudley, sisters: Evelyn Harmon, Helen Harmon, Betty Wade, Dollie Runyon, and Nancy Herring.

JR was a loving and caring father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be greatly missed. He loved sitting under his gazebo listening to country music with a beer in his hand, tending to his flowers, growing tomatoes, and visiting with family and friends. He was a faithful supporter of IU basketball and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Funeral services will be April 21, 2025, at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, Nashville, Indiana. Visitation starts at 12:00 pm to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville, Indiana.
