Wilbur D. Followell

Wilbur D. Followell, 81, Nashville, passed away September 1 at the Brown County Health & Living Community where he received the most wonderful & loving care over the past 5 years plus. The family would also like to thank Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Wilbur was born September 28, 1929 to Roy & Bertha (Sexton) Followell in Elkinsville, IN. He married Lois (Quillen) Followell on April 28, 1951. They had just recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School & attended Indiana University for 1 year, then worked at the RCA plant in Bloomington. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 14, 1951. He served in the Construction Engineers Battalion at Ft. Sill, OK. After being discharged, he worked at Cummins Engine Co. for a short time & then became a full time grain & cattle farmer. He remained in farming until July 7, 1989 when he suffered a severe stroke. He also drove a school bus for Brown County School Corp. for 12 years.

Wilbur was an avid sportsman, loving to fish, hunt mushrooms, & he was a great deer hunter. He served on the local A.S.C.S. board, the East Monroe Water Corp. board, & Parkview Church of the Nazarene board where he was still a member.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, Nashville, son, Dennis (Lisa), Paoli, daughter, Terri (Marc) Kirkham, Nashville, 3 grandchildren Brandon Kirkham (fiancé Sarah), Milwaukee, WI., Stephanie ( Levi) Gilbert, Nashville, TN., & McKenzie Followell, Paoli, 3 step grandchildren, Trevor, Jeried, & Breanna, Paoli & numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Aubrey Followell of Tupelo, MS. & Chester Followell of Nashville.

Services will be held at Parkview Church of the Nazarene, Nashville on Tuesday, September 6 at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow at Duncan Cemetery with military rites by Brown County Veteran’s Honor Guard, pastor David Hayes will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the church on Monday, September 5 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. & one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
