MORE, Agnes Stokes Fort More. In great appreciation of such a joyful and generous soul, we announce with personal sorrow the fact that Agnes Stokes Fort More died on April 27th, 2011. She leaves behind so very many devoted family members and friends here on earth who are left to wonder about the way things happen in this world. From Palmer School, through Ward Belmont, The Madeira School, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Franklin, Virginia Beach and beyond, she blazed a path so bright, steady and true. Intensely interested in nature, the Arts and her fellow man, she was always busy lifting others up. By her nature she was attracted to the good things in life, and she fully realized that a strong faith, a happy heart, a disciplined life, a concern for and love of others are the real and true things of life. She will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes May Stokes of Lynchburg, VA, and Rufus Elijah Fort Jr., and two sisters, Julia Fails and Louise Merritt. She is survived and mourned by her husband of 54 years, Livingfield More, her daughter Ellen Livingfield More and grandchildren Ellen Octavia Stokes Dunavan and John Theron Hatfield Nicholson Dunavan, Jr. as well as beloved nieces and nephews. She was also survived by her sister, Tish Fort. A private graveside burial service will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at her family home, River Grange. The Rev. Canon Henry P. Minton will officiate. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the following: The Agnes Stokes Fort More Endowment for Excellence in the Arts at Battle Ground Academy, 336 Ernest Rice Lane, Franklin, TN 37069; The Virginia Military Institute, for the Dr. Rufus E. and Louise Clark Fort Scholarship for Tennesseans, P.O. Box 932, Lexington, VA 24450; or Nashville Public Television, 161 Raines Ave., Nashville, TN 37203. Arrangements under the direction of Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home, Nashville, Tennessee.
