

Amelie Khao Mingsing was born on May 8, 1973, in Phiang, Sayaboury, Laos, to Thien and Phone Mingsing. She was the third of seven children. In her early years, her family relocated to the Namyao refugee camp in Thailand, where they lived for six years before immigrating to Oregon in 1981. Shortly after the family settled in San Diego, California, where Amelie spent most of her childhood.
During her childhood, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. As a kid she enjoyed playing badminton and picking fresh fruits from the trees. She attended grade school there and graduated on June 11, 1991 from Lincoln High School. She would then attend technical college briefly, but would shift her priority to motherhood by welcoming first son, Tony Mingsing on Feb 24, 1992. Two years later she would then welcome her second son, Tovi Aphayavong on September 12, 1994.
That same year, Amelie would then relocate to Nashville, Tennessee for better opportunities. Here she would work at a few locations and would ultimately start at Nissan in 2003 where she would spend over 10 years of her career. In her off time, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.
On September 12, 2005, she would welcome her third son, Tevin Aphayavong. She would continue to raise her children with love and selflessness throughout the years as her boys were her world. In 2016, she would earn the title of “Grandma”, which she wore proudly as Adelynn Mingsing was brought into this world. Four years later in 2020, she would have her second grandchild, Rowan Mingsing. There are many things she could be proud of in her lifetime, but it is without a doubt that she was most proud to be called mom & grandma.
In 2019, Amelie was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer where she’d fought and became a breast cancer survivor in July, 2024. Unfortunately, in that same month , she was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. She would undergo surgery and multiple treatments, but the tumor would return July 2025. Here she decided she does not want to pursue further treatment and enjoy her final moments with family and friends. Despite of her circumstance with her health, San Diego where she spent three months with her mother, sisters, brother and close relatives. In November 2025 she would live the remainder of her life in Lebanon, TN and passed away on February 6, 2026 peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
She is survived by her mother, Phone Mingsing; three siblings, Saeng Mingsing, Sharon Mingsing, and Thongsouk Mingsing; three sons, Tony Mingsing, Tovi Aphayavong, and Tevin Aphayavong; and her grandchildren, Adelynn and Rowan Mingsing.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN, 37204, US, on February 16, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
The Funeral Service will follow at the same location from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm on the same day.
