Anne Hoover Gulley died peacefully on January 1 at Richland Place Health Center following an extended struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on November 12, 1934, in Augusta, GA, to Jack and Pearl Hoover, who predeceased her, along with her brothers James, Jack, and Charles.
Anne graduated from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, where she met her future husband, Frank Gulley, Jr., while he was attending graduate school at Emory University. They were married for 66 years and had two children: Stuart (Kathleen) of Atlanta, GA, and Beth (Tommy Koehler) of Franklin, TN.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Anne worked for a number of years for United Methodist Communications. She gave selflessly of her time to numerous causes important to her, including Calvary United Methodist Church, the YWCA, PEO, AgeWell (formerly Council on Aging), Vanderbilt Women's Club, and Meals on Wheels. In 2015, she received the Elizabeth Jacobs Distinguished Service Award from AgeWell. She valued her association with the Encounter Sunday School Class at Calvary UMC, and with several book clubs, including Shandygaff.
Anne is survived by her husband and children, and five grandchildren: Sarah Koehler (Patrick Gladstone) of Nashville, TN; Rachel Koehler Jones (Andrew) of Herndon, VA; Allison Koehler-Masavisut (Pai) of Richmond, VA; Andrew Gulley of Atlanta, GA; and Matthew Gulley of New York City, NY.
Visitation was on Sunday January 28, 2024 with a Memorial service following at Calvary United Methodist Church.
