

Betty Joan Samberg Stone Died Sunday, August 3, 2014. Born in Ames, Iowa, on June 19, 1921. Survived by husband , Charles M. Stone, Jr.; children, Sandra Stone Merritt (Cullen) and Charles M. Stone, III (Shannon); grandchildren, Frank Blackwell and Marcus Stone; great-grandchildren, Reed, Cason, and Clint Blackwell; brother, Allen Samberg (Carolyn ), Burlington, IA. Other survivors include a niece and two nephews. Mrs. Stone was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church (formerly Waverly Place), where she taught the 2-year-old Sunday School class for over 35 years, was a Circle Leader, and more recently taught the Kingdom Builders Class for six years. She was a former president of the Melrose Garden Club; a Cheekwood garden guide; a member of Chapter 144, Order of the Eastern Star; a former president of Scarritt Aid; and former volunteer at Wesley House (now Bethlehem Center). Important to her throughout her life was her deep and sincere patriotism for the United States which she volunteered to serve during World War II as a member of the Women’s Army Air Corps. Mrs. Stone and her husband, also in US military service, met in England during their service and were married there shortly before the end of the war. Funeral service Thursday August 7th, at eleven o’clock, Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1250 Old Hickory Blvd., Brentwood. Visitation with family and friends Wednesday, August 6th at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home from four o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial to follow the service at Woodlawn. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Center, 1417 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville 37203, or the charity of your choice.
