

Born in Cookeville, TN, Betty graduated from Mary Baldwin College. Betty was a travel agent for Hospital Corporation of America for many years. Betty volunteered her time and talents to Second Harvest Food Bank, Perenity Flower Ministry, and the Nashville Humane Association. Betty was generous, kind, and had a quick wit. Dearest to her heart were her family, her pets, and traveling around the world.

Survived by husband, Thomas Alexander Pirtle, III; sister, Elizabeth Darwin Grobmyer (Mark), Little Rock, AR; brother, John Claude Darwin III (Josephine), Nashville, TN; sister-in-law, Mary Pirtle Bettis (Dan), Maryville, TN; brother-in-law, Ed Pirtle, Nashville, TN; nieces and nephews, John Darwin Grobmyer (Stacy), Little Rock, AR; Andrew Mallory Grobmyer (Suzanne), Little Rock, AR; Mark Draper Grobmyer, Austin, TX; Elizabeth Wills Darwin, Washington, DC; Matthew Fisher Bettis, Knoxville, TN; Alexadra Hall Bettis (Nashville, TN; great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Mary, Mack, Jack and Margaret Grobmyer, all of Little Rock, AR.
Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Cheek House, First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN from ten o’ clock in the morning until noon funeral service to follow at the church.
Private burial will follow in the columbarium
Honorary pallbearers are “The Cookeville Girls”, Marta Roberts, Claudia Williams, and Betty Rhea Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville Humane Society, Second Harvest Food Bank, First Presbyterian Church of Nashville or to a charity of your choice.
