Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Howard Sells, and her parents, W.C. (Bill) and Aline O’Neal.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Jack Huddleston Sells (Michele), Allen Brooks Sells, Peggy O’Neal Sells, her grandsons Carter Scott Sells (Kyla) and Jackson Lloyd Sells, her sister, Peggy O’Neal Cathey and two nephews.
Born on July 14,1932, Betty lived in Cookeville TN where she was a beacon of light to all that knew her. She attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville but after a bout of homesickness, she returned home to Tennessee Tech. After graduation, she became a home demonstration agent for Grundy and Warren counties in TN before meeting her beloved husband of 57 years, Jack Howard Sells. Betty was a wonderful homemaker and family was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted wife to Jack and poured her heart and soul into raising her children with Christian values. She never missed one of her kids’ athletic events, home or away, and was the best team mom to everyone involved.
Betty had a deep faith and was always available to help people in need. She was a prayer warrior and was known to pray without ceasing even asking God to help her cake rise when it went in the oven or for a parking space at the grocery. She earned her nickname Bible Betty as she looked to share God’s love wherever she went. Her favorite name of all was Momma B which her grandsons called her as they brought such joy and pride in her life.
Betty became a mentor to young women in her church. She loved her bible studies and various communities where she could share her faith. She greeted everyone with a genuine warmth and kindness. Her blue eyes and smile were such a comfort to many. If she told you she was praying for you, she meant it. Her family and friends called her often with prayer requests. She gravitated towards children and loved the kids in her neighborhood and their daily visits. She greeted them with cookies, candy, and the daily reminder that Jesus loved them.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Pat, her caregiver for 19 years, Richland Place and Alive Hospice for their professionalism, compassion, and care.
Betty will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, wisdom, and devotion to God and family will forever be cherished. We remember a life well lived and a precious soul deeply loved.
A service to honor her life will be Friday, March 14, 2025, at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home located at 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204. Visitation will take place from 12 pm to 1pm with a service directly after beginning at 1pm. Family burial to follow.
It was Betty’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of donations to The Bridge Ministry, 533 Brick Church Park Dr, Nashville TN 37207 or online at www.bridgeministry.org. Betty was passionately dedicated to The Bridge Ministry and Candy Christmas’ commitment to serve the homeless in Nashville.
