

He was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi on August 18, 1936 and was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Patricia Chaney Betterton. He is survived by his children: Robert Whelan Betterton Jr. (Jackie Betterton), John Thomas Betterton (Jim Bibler), Shawn Elizabeth Betterton Pelletier (James Pelletier), Paul Michael Betterton and grandchildren: Brandon Betterton, Andrew McMackin, Olivia Betterton, Josh Pelletier and Ellen Pelletier.
Bob was an Eagle Scout at age 13 (one of the youngest to ever attain the rank). In 1958, he earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial and Business Management from Mississippi State University. He was a longtime parishioner of Saint Henry’s Catholic Church in Bellevue and a dedicated member of the Bellevue Family YMCA, where he was a member of both the “Knights of the Roundtable” and the ROMEO group (Real Old Men Eating Out). He was a world traveler, having traveled to 27 countries, most recently to Australia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Ireland.
Visitation with the family will be held at Saint Henry’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 27 from 5-7 and on Wednesday, August 28, from 10-11, Funeral Mass at 11 and burial at Calvary Cemetery.
