
Carolyn Reese Mauldin was born on October 5, 1933, and left this life on February 24, 2017, after suffering a stroke. Her parents, her brothers, Ken Reese and Donald Reese, and her sister Lillian Green preceded her in death. She is survived by Don, her husband of 60 years, her daughters Karen (Tim) Hornbeak of Nashville, Tennessee, Lillian (Luke) Purdy of Pineville, Louisiana, and three grandsons, Jay Purdy, Jack Hornbeak, and Matthew Hornbeak. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews. Carolyn was born to Vance and Pauline Davis Reese in Raleigh, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Memphis State University. She taught school in Louisville, KY and Greenville, SC. After her children were in school, she returned to education as a teacher's aide. She enjoyed walking out in the afternoon and not having grading and preparations to do. She also loved music. She sang in church choirs for almost 60 years and sang in the Nashville Symphony Chorus for 28 years. She was an active member at Forest Hills Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She and her husband participated in many mission projects. She participated in disaster relief training as well as international mission trips. They served meals to workers in New York after 9/11 and in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. One of the great joys in her life was the years Carolyn taught conversational English to international students. She and Don kept up with one group of Sri Lankan students for over 20 years and visited them in Sri Lanka. Carolyn enjoyed flowers and the "funny" pages She wasn't fearful of death; instead, "Her faith found a resting place" in her savior Jesus Christ. Visitation will be 11:00am-1:00pm Monday, February 27, 2017, at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. The funeral will be at 1:00 pm at the church and burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Jay Purdy, Jack Hornbeak, and Matthew Hornbeak and nephews Stephen Reese, Vance Reese, Scott Green, and Tommie Martin.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Alive Hospice 1710 Patterson Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.
