Dorothy Faye “Ema” Hargrove (née Hill), lovingly known as Peeka Bird, passed away on July 5, 2024. Born on December 2, 1945, in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the cherished daughter of Jacob Irvin Hill and Dorothy Elizabeth Bowden. Faye was raised in Nashville, where she met her high school sweetheart, Richard Hargrove Sr., at Litton High School. Their love story began when Richard serenaded her with a guitar, riding his bike to her house, a romantic gesture that led to their marriage on December 7, 1963.
In the late 1980s, Faye and Richard moved to Christiana, where they built a life filled with love and family. Faye retired from Kroger’s as a floor supervisor and enjoyed spending her days reading mystery novels, quilting, sewing, and watching wildlife on their farm. She was a devoted grandmother, always finding joy in the company of her grandchildren.
Faye is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Richard Hargrove Sr.; her sisters, Pamela Wizniuk and Sylvia Kalenieck; and her sons, James M. (Helen), Christopher S. (Heather), and Richard E. Jr. (Jennifer). She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Logan Hargrove and Ashley Crouch (children of James and Helen), and Eli Hargrove and Zetta Hargrove (children of Richard Jr. and Jennifer). Her great-grandchildren, Alexis, Melody, and Silas (children of Logan and Alison Hargrove), and Emery and Lorelai (children of Ashley and Matthew Crouch), will carry forward her legacy of love and strength.
Preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ronnie Hill, Faye’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her. She was a woman who always pushed others to do better, maintained a steadfast attention to detail, and upheld common courtesies, ensuring thank you cards were always sent. Her hardworking nature was evident throughout her life, whether running a drapery business from her home in Nashville or working for the Nashville diocese after retirement.
Dorothy Faye Hargrove’s life was a testament to love, family, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
