Mark Martin Jones, age 88, passed away October 7, 2016, after an accident and a brief illness. For over 40 years he was a Professor of Chemistry at Vanderbilt University. A graduate of Lehigh University, he obtained a Ph. D. from the University of Kansas. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Gleason Jones; sons Mark G. Jones (Wendy) of Sandy Springs, Georgia, Ted I. Jones (Karen) of Memphis; granddaughters Lisa E. Jones, Emma-Rose Y. Jones, and Elizabeth H. Jones; and grandsons Clifford P. Jones and Grant M. Jones. His memory is a blessing to many associates, students, and friends who got to know his keen intellect and wonderful sense of humor. A service in memory and honoring his life shall be held 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home with visitation prior from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A private family committal will be held following the service.
