She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Leslie T. Hart, who died June 15, 1995.
She is survived by her daughter, Sallie Hart; her son, Tommy Hart (Lili); her granddaughter, Sarah Lawson (Pat); her grandson, John Hart (Angela); and three great-grandsons, Will Lawson (7), Sam Hart (3) and Ben Hart (18 months).
Born in Winchester, Tennessee on June 19, 1913, the second youngest of eight children, Gladys spent the majority of her life in Nashville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose happiest times were spent with the love of her life, “Les”; her children and her church, where she was one of the founding families of St. Henry Catholic Church in 1955.
Gladys particularly loved the early years of her marriage with Les at the U.S. Naval Base in Key West, Florida; and later her years at Les Hart Agency, where she served as secretary-treasurer and was Les’ “quiet strength”. At the same time, she was an accomplished homemaker, excelling in cooking, sewing and gardening. She really loved “digging in the dirt”, and was rumored to have a “green thumb”.
She was especially devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary, and volunteered for many years with the Ladies of Charity, St. Thomas Hospital and various ministries at St. Henry Church. She was a “gentle breeze” to everyone she met and who knew her, and her “sweet smile” will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to express its grateful appreciation to Renee Hanserd, Kathy Webb and the loving, compassionate caregivers at Alive Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at St. Henry Catholic Church, 6401 Harding Rd, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, with the Mass following at 11:00AM. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1001 Lebanon Pike.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Henry Capital Campaign, the St. Henry Visitation Ministry, Alive Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.
