Helen Hooper Whitley

Helen Hooper Whitley left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Harrison Hooper and Ellie Neighbors Hooper; sister, Sylvia Eakes, nephew, William Richard Smith, and aunt, Ruth Warren, who she took care of for twenty years. Helen is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, Roger Whitley; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Lee Parrish; son and daughter-in-law, David and Joanna Whitley; grandsons, Jared, Zachary, Thomas, Caleb; sisters, Myrna Short, Ellie Ruth Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Nashville, Helen graduated from Cumberland High School and Falls Business College. She was employed by the Federal Government for thirty-two years before retiring in 1994. Helen has been a member of Third Baptist Church since she was eleven years of age. She has taught Sunday school there for most of her life, most recently the Golden Circle class. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 21st at 2:00pm in the chapel of Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with Jared Parrish, Zachary Parrish, James Baker, Mark Gerald, David Miller, and Rick Owens serving as active pallbearers. The Golden Circle Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, July 20th from 4:00-8:00pm and again on Friday beginning at noon.
