Herbert J Sharbel

Sharbel, Herbert J. (Herb) passed away at home on May 5, 2023. Herb was born on March 26, 1947, in Nashville, TN to Kelly Matthew Sharbel, Sr. And Margaret Johnson Sharbel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Griffith Sharbel, to whom he was greatly devoted, his parents, and brothers Kelly Sharbel, Jr. and Joseph Sharbel. Loving father of Ben (Jill) and Peter (Jesselyn), Grandfather of William, Annie, Michael, Johnny, Georgina, Sabrina, and Catalina. Herb is survived by his sisters and brothers Nolan (Laura), Charlie (Denise), Jeanne Gower (Pat), Cecilia (DJ), and Cathy; sisters-in-law Nancy and Susan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he loved greatly.

In life, Herb was a graduate of Father Ryan High School and the University of Tennessee. He was proud to be a United States Marine and served in the Vietnam War. He spent many years as a civilian working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and upon retirement enjoyed striking up good conversation while bartending, spending cherished time with friends and family, and doting on his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 88.

Visitation is at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 5:30PM with Rosary at 7:00PM. Funeral Mass at Holy Rosary, Friday, May 12, 2023, at 11:00AM with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Kevin Paul Davis Scholarship Fund at Father Ryan High School.
