Horace Franklin Burkholder, Jr. passed away on December 13, 2017. He was born in Nashville on September 1st, 1936 and is preceded in death by his parents, Madge Morrison Burkholder and Horace Franklin Burkholder. He is survived by his sister Linda Morrison Burkholder and numerous cousins in Kentucky.
Frank attended Parmer Elementary School, Montgomery Bell Academy and the University of Kentucky. While at MBA, he was captain of the 1955 State champion football team and was the first team All City and second team All State. After college he returned to Nashville where he joined Equitable Securities Corporation and worked in the Municipal Bond department for several years. For six years he served in the Tennessee Air National Guard.
The Nashville YMCA was an important part of Frank’s life, and he was chairman of several committees through the years. His special interest was racquetball, winning many tournaments. In 2005, he and his sister Linda were the recipients of the HG Hill, Jr. Philanthropic Award, presented by the Downtown YMCA of Middle Tennessee. Frank was a fine man who loved his friends. He was generous, unselfish and funny and was admired and loved by those who knew him well.
Frank was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, The Belle Meade Country Club and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Visitation with family and friends will on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, followed by graveside services at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Hwy 100.
