H. R. (Roy) Slaymaker died Monday, February 5 in Nashville, where he had lived most of his life. He was 90. After returning from military service in Germany in 1946 he attended Vanderbilt University School of Engineering and graduated Cum Laude in 1950. He started as a carpenter’s apprentice at Foster and Creighton Company and worked his way up to Vice President. He went on to form his own contracting company, The Parent Company, which is still adding to the Nashville skyline. He served as national president of the Association of General Contractors and earned a stellar reputation for always getting work done “on time and under budget.” In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife of 67 years. He also enjoyed fine woodworking and was well known for exquisite reproductions of antique furniture. He was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Bowers Slaymaker, and his children, Paul Slaymaker, Maggie Parker, Chris Slaymaker, Brad Slaymaker, Emily Morrissey, and by five grandchildren.
Visitation 12:30-1:30 at St George’s Episcopal Church followed by private memorial service.
