

Howard Brewer Utley, 94, died Saturday August 26 with his family by his side. He was born on June 16, 1929 in Nashville, TN to Arthur and Ora Utley. Howard graduated from East High and went on to graduate from David Lipscomb College in Accounting. Soon after graduation, Howard was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. While stationed in San Antonio, he met the love of his life, Brownie Selph, and soon made her his wife. The couple would return to his home in Nashville and remained happily married for 65 years until her death. Howard actively served in his churches throughout his life and remained a faithful Christian until his death.
Howard exemplified humbleness, kindness, patience and most of all Godliness. Not only did he actively serve in his churches, professionally he served as the CFO for two Christian publishing companies, Thomas Nelson Publishers and 21st Century Christian Publishing. He touched many lives and was known for his love for the Lord and his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Phillip (Laura) Utley and Amy (Stan) Overstreet, grandchildren,Lindsey, Morgan and Jordan Overstreet. Preceding his death included his parents Arthur and Ora Utley, his brother, Tom Utley.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, September 1, 2023 from 11:00 O'clock in the morning until 1:00 O'clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane Nashville, TN 37204. A Graveside service will follow the visitation at 2:45 PM at Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike S, Nashville, TN 37216.
