Jack "Tim" Timothy Hornbeak

Jack "Tim" Timothy Hornbeak, age 70, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023. He survived a bone-marrow transplant in May 2022, and his family was grateful for the additional year they were able to spend with him as a result. He fought a courageous battle against various complications in the spring of 2023 and finally succumbed to a bout of pneumonia. Tim fought against his illness with uncomplaining grace.

Tim was born May 16, 1953, in Greenfield, Tennessee, to Jack and Louise Williams Hornbeak. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his sons, Jack and Matthew as well as his brother, Greg (Brenda). He is also survived by two nephews, Jesse Hornbeak (Heather) and Jay Purdy; his good friend, Andy Alexander (Suzanne), and many cousins. Tim was proceeded in death by his parents.

Tim was a graphic artist. He was a graduate of Greenfield High School and Memphis State University. He was an extraordinary sculptor and enjoyed creating objects that will serve as memorials to his talent for those who loved him.

Tim was an active member at Forest Hills Baptist Church, and he and Karen loved their Sunday School class friends. Tim participated in several life changing mission trips, and he served on chainsaw crews to help others after natural disasters. Tim enjoyed the family farm in Greenfield and loved that his sons got to experience life there. He was a person who was always willing to help others, and he made a point to get to know people and listen to their stories. His sons, Jack and Matthew, were the delight of his life.

The family would like to thank the Circle Sunday School class at Forest Hills for their prayers, meals, calls, and kindnesses and well as the staff at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, Centennial Hospital, and Alive Hospice. The family is also forever grateful to the anonymous bone marrow donor who gave him an extra year of life.

A visitation for Tim will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 2101 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN 37215. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 7, 2023 at 1:00 PM, 2101 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN 37215. A graveside service will occur Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hornbeak Cemetery, 2209 North Meridian Street, Greenfield, TN 38230. Those honoring Tim and the family by serving as pallbearers are Andy Alexander, Jesse Hornbeak, Greg Hornbeak, Jay Purdy, Luke Purdy, and Gary Smithson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Circle Sunday School Class Mission Fund C/O Forest Hills Baptist Church, 2101 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, Tennessee 37215. The money from this fund supports Room at the Inn, Safe Haven Family Shelter, and other groups who minister to those in need.
